Not
anymore, but our dear little monkey had a hard few weeks. On Monday,
Brittany came back to work. I continued to take her to swimming lessons
(so fun!) and then went to work afterwards. On Wednesday, Brittany
called me about 3:00, and I could hear Ivy screaming in the background.
I hung up and rode my bike home in less than 13 minutes. I ran all the
lights. Ivy had been stung by a wasp. I over-reacted and took her to
the emergency room. She was just fine, though she needed extra cuddles.
When she's tired and cranky, she lays down on her comfy cozy lamb from
Brendan and Ana. It's so soft, and it's good for hugging.
Then,
on Thursday night, our air conditioner broke. It was pretty warm, and
Ivy was even warmer. She had a temperatue of about 100F. Here she is,
being cured by playing cups with Mommy and Daddy at midnight. She slept
for a few hours and then woke again. Her fever was even higher, 102.5!
I cuddled her and she slept a bit. We took her to the doctor, and he
said she had a virus. She didn't. She was having a reaction to her MMRV
vaccine of 12 days earlier. We made our own diagnosis when we saw the
welt as big as my fist at the injection site. We think she shouldn't
have taken the vaccines on top of her ear infection. We also think that
she was working so hard to fight all the poisons in her body off that
she just got sick.
Her fever broke in a few days, and her rash is very nearly gone. She was a very bad sleeper for a week, though, and we spent lots of nights giving her extra cuddles. She seems basically back to normal by now.
Ivy
is all over the house all the time. We have a hard time keeping up with
her. She helps us sort the recycling into clear and opaque plastic bottles to bang on. She also helps her daddy understand complex cultural theory.
It's
been great having Brittany back, but we really miss our little girl. I
stay with Ivy in the morning, and Josh comes home first in the evening.
She is looking so pretty and sweet to us -- we think
it's because we miss her so much. I think about her all day at school,
and both of us look at the pictures we have of Ivy in our offices. When
we get home, we play with Ivy in every room of the house.
She's
been enjoying lots of presents. She loves her rocking moose, and uses
it to walk around the house. She pushes it around as she cruises across
the living room floor. She likes to use the kitchen chairs for the same
thing. We wish she'd figure out how to just walk. She also rides her
rocking horse -- briefly -- before she starts to slide off. We have to
help her.
Last
night we had the Simaneks over for dinner. They brought Ivy an
automatic bubble machine (shaped like a lion) for her birthday. In the
morning we blew bubbles in the sun. Ivy laughed and laughed, and now
she points and grunts at the lion when she sees it.
Her best birthday presents came from Grandpa John and Grandma Rachel. They got her this
amazing tunnel and playhouse. She loves it, though it can be exhausting
rushing through it to find balls and mommies at the other end.
